Hello, and welcome to our next blog on 'Meet The Chocolate Smiths'
This week it's all about Amy.
Amy has a background in design as she studied it at university! She has always been creative, loves to draw (that's why we have such wonderful packaging) and is a real foodie!
As one of the founding members, she started the business with Steffi back in 2014; How time flies!
Amy runs The Chocolate Smiths' kitchen, designs the branding, packaging and pretty much everything you see!
First of all, how did you get involved in chocolate?
I applied for a job working in another chocolate shop - which just happened to be where Steffi worked!
What do you love about your job?
The people. The job itself is brilliant (who wouldn't love being able to say they work with chocolate for a living?) but the people here absolutely make it. Steffi and I gel really well - which is lucky seeing as we've had to spend so much time together, I'm always amazed that we're still great friends after all this! I'm always really happy to come into work and see everyone - as well as having our weird conversations. The work can be stressful at times but having such a brilliant team makes everything so much easier.
What is your best-loved Bizarre Bar and why?
Bubblegum! It tastes like bubblegum ice cream. That's enough of a reason in itself! It also has tons of sprinkles and looks lovely and shimmery! It's a very satisfying bar to make.
Surely after 4 years you're sick of chocolate by now?
Not yet! I never really used to eat any chocolate, but it's a slippery slope.
What is your favourite memory since starting The Chocolate Smiths?
There are way too many. There are amazing things we've all achieved like being able to work for the business full time, being able to take on brilliant staff members, sending off massive Christmas orders, or even shipping to Australia... but at the same time there were so many funny moments during our really difficult first year. Steffi and I worked constantly but looking back on it all is hilarious. There's no way we could have survived it without each other! Recently there was also an incident with a giant moth. We found out exactly who our bravest team members were.
What is the one thing you want to achieve in life?
Happiness! We all work so hard together at The Chocolate Smiths and it is very fulfilling. It's so important to be happy at work. You spend so much of life there so it's very important to me to help ensure that everyone in our workplace is enjoying their job! It's so satisfying to hear when our team members are happy at work. We're still working hard together and even if things don't end up working out the way we have planned, I want to be able to be happy and proud of what we have achieved.
What is your motto?
I'm not sure if I have just one motto! Always try your best. Work hard to get where you want to be! You have to put in the effort in life - nothing comes for free.
